A 28-year-old tea garden worker was reportedly found dead in the northeastern part of Bangladesh on the eve of voting, prompting shock in the local community.
The victim has been identified as Ratan Shuvo Kar, a tea garden worker of Champara Tea Garden, which falls under Islampur union in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar, some 190 km from Dhaka. According to a report by The Daily Star, Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Awal said that the body was noticed by some locals around 10 am inside the tea garden.

When police reached the spot, they found that his hands and feet were tied. Locals said that there were some marks of injuries on the body, which looked as if they were drenched in blood at the time of the discovery. A tea garden worker, who preferred not to be named, told the newspaper that it appears that the murder might have taken place in some other place, and the body might have been dumped in the tea garden later.
The family had been searching since night
Laxman Kar, Ratan's elder brother, said they have been searching for Ratan since last night. “This morning, we were informed that his body was lying in the garden. We went there and identified him. We do not know why he was killed,” he said.

No evidence of poll link so far
As per a report by the Hindustan Times, with the election taking place, some people in the area started speculating about a possible election-related motive. But the police have denied any such claims, saying that they have found no reason to believe that the murder is linked to the election.
OC Abdul Awal said that the body has been sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
