Actor Adarsh Gourav has begun filming a new documentary series titled The Tribal Voice, a project that takes him on a cultural journey across the diverse landscapes of Northeast India. The series aims to highlight the voices, traditions and lived experiences of indigenous communities in the region through an immersive storytelling format.

Exploring the indigenous cultures of Northeast India

The docu-series follows Gourav as he travels through several parts of Northeast India, interacting closely with local communities and documenting their traditions, music, and everyday life. The first leg of the shoot has already begun on Majuli Island, one of the world’s largest river islands located in the state of Assam.

Through music, oral histories and daily cultural practices, the series explores themes of heritage, identity and resilience among tribal communities. The narrative is designed to celebrate the region’s rich cultural legacy while also presenting contemporary perspectives on indigenous life.

Gourav has said that the project allows him to connect with communities and traditions that many Indians know little about, making the experience both personal and educational.

Actor calls the experience ‘intimate and immersive’

As per a report of Bollywood Hungama, speaking about the collaboration, Adarsh Gourav shared, "The main reason I said yes to this project was the opportunity to explore the cultures of the Northeast in a way that felt intimate and immersive. Through this unique series, I’ve been able to engage closely with local communities, tasting their cuisines, listening to their stories, and learning about the histories of their tribes through firsthand, intimate conversations. And to me this experience in itself is invaluable."

The actor also said the series gives him access to remote communities and narratives that he might never have encountered otherwise. According to him, presenting these experiences on a wider platform could help audiences across the country understand the cultural richness of the Northeast.
