As reported in the media, the High Court of Delhi has ruled that the assets belonging to businessman Sunjay Kapur, who breathed his last in London last June and had left behind an estimated inheritance of Rs 30,000 crore, should remain frozen amidst a rather nasty dispute involving his third wife, Priya Sachdeva Kapur, and his two kids, Kiaan and Samaira Kapoor, from his previous marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor, according to NDTV reports.

According to Kiaan and Samaira, Priya Kapur has tampered with the will of their father, Sunjay Kapur, and filed a partial list of assets, which does not include pricey horses kept for playing polo, along with several luxury wristwatches from renowned brands such as Rolex.

Moreover, Kiaan and Samaira have said that some of the immovable properties and costly paintings of Sunjay Kapur, among other valuable Kapur family assets, have not been listed in the petition filed by Priya Kapur at the court.

The court gives a verdict

The onus, the court said, is on Priya Kapur to dispel suspicions over the will. It added that Karisma Kapoor's children had established a prima facie case, and it would be an “injustice” if no action were taken and the will is later proven to be fake.

The broader dispute, which also includes clashes between Priya Kapur and Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, as well as his sister, Mandira Kapur, has been marked by sharp exchanges. In November, the children were referred to as “a rich Oliver Twist who wants more.”

Conspiracy around Sunjay’s death?

Sunjay Kapur, aged 53, died during a polo match in London on June 12 last year. His death was originally attributed to cardiac arrest, although there were claims that it had been due to anaphylactic shock.

In fact, his mother accused “a transnational conspiracy” of her son’s death. However, in August, the medical authorities in Britain declared that he died of natural causes.
