Prime Minister Narendra Modi stirred political debate during a public meeting in Kerala, where he criticised both the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Addressing the gathering, he accused opposition parties of repeatedly misleading the public on key issues, including films, government policies and laws. "The Congress and the UDF-LDF have developed a habit of lying about everything. When we brought the CAA, they spread many lies. Today, the CAA has been implemented, and the country has suffered no harm," PM Modi said.

He further added, "When the film Kerala Files came out, they said it was lies; when Kashmir Files came out, they said it was lies; when the film Dhurandhar came, they again said it was lies. Whatever you do, they spread lies. In the same way, lies are being spread about the FCRA and the UCC."
Prakash Raj reacts on social media
Actor and filmmaker Prakash Raj responded to the viral video on X (formerly Twitter). Sharing the clip, he took a swipe at the Prime Minister, writing, "From selling chai to selling films… Can you see the desperation, phrends?" He ended the post with the hashtag "justasking".

The post quickly drew attention online, with users reacting to both the speech and the actor's comment.
"I don’t think he is looking desperate at all !!! He being 4 times Chief minister and 3 time Prime Minister already, thats like a Grandmaster of any politician!!!! But you, seem to me a lot desperate, not a single day you spent without abusing him or ridiculing him, or mocking him," said one user reacting to the post on X.

Personal loss and online response
Amid the political exchange, Prakash Raj is also dealing with a personal loss. The actor's 86-year-old mother passed away in March, with her cremation conducted on March 31 following Christian traditions.
Soon after, a social media post circulated showing visuals from the funeral alongside clips from a 2025 interview where he described himself as an atheist. Responding to the post, Raj addressed the criticism and explained his stance.
"Yes. I don't believe in god…but my mother believed in her god. Who am I to deny her the right to be buried according to her belief? This is the basic respect we give one another," he wrote, while also calling out what he described as hate-driven commentary online.
