Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, drawing the curtain on a long and memorable career that saw him represent Pakistan across formats and lead the side to one of its greatest modern-day triumphs. The wicketkeeper-batter, who was a central figure in Pakistan cricket during the late 2010s, will forever be remembered for captaining the team to victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
Sarfaraz confirmed his decision after reflecting on his journey in international and domestic cricket. Having been away from the national team in recent years, the veteran felt it was the right time to step aside and allow the next generation of cricketers to take forward Pakistan’s legacy.

Sarfaraz Ahmed’s most iconic moment came in 2017 when he led Pakistan to a historic ICC Champions Trophy title in England. Pakistan entered the tournament as underdogs but produced a remarkable turnaround after an early defeat to reach the final.
In the title clash at The Oval, Pakistan delivered a dominant performance against arch-rivals India to lift the trophy. Sarfaraz’s calm leadership and ability to inspire a young squad played a major role in that memorable campaign.
The victory is widely considered one of Pakistan’s most celebrated achievements in limited-overs cricket.
A dependable wicketkeeper-batter for Pakistan
Sarfaraz made his international debut in 2007 and went on to play for Pakistan in Tests, ODIs and T20Is over the next decade. Apart from his captaincy, he was valued for his reliability behind the stumps and his ability to score crucial runs in the middle order.
