Kolkata today woke up to a cloudy sky with the Alipore Meteorological Department warning of worsening weather conditions as the day progresses. A special bulletin has flagged a rise in thunderstorm activity and rainfall across West Bengal, driven by strong wind patterns and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal.
According to officials, an east-west trough currently extends from northeast Bihar to Manipur. At the same time, another trough is active from Jharkhand to Gangetic West Bengal. These systems are creating favourable conditions for widespread rain and lightning across the state.
Rain and thunderstorm alert across districts
Most districts in West Bengal are expected to receive rainfall along with thunderstorms today. Lightning activity is likely to remain intense, especially during the evening hours. Authorities have cautioned residents to remain alert, particularly in open areas where lightning poses a higher risk.
