From Gariahat to Esplanade, in Kolkata, finding a parking spot often ends with either a hefty fee or a traffic fine. But tucked away in an official traffic regulation document lies a long list of roads where parking is still free (at least for specific hours).
The document, accessed by the News Ei Samay, maps multiple traffic guard zones from Bhawanipore to Shyambazar and Dalhousie. Notably, not every stretch is free all the time. Some come with time restrictions, some with partial stretches only. The document also flags areas with “enormous pressure of parking.”
