The disappearance of 84-year-old Annie Guthrie has again drawn public attention after alleged photographs of her daughter, Nancy Guthrie, and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, circulated online. The images sparked renewed discussion about the case, which began after Guthrie was reported missing on February 1 from her home in Catalina Foothills near Tucson, Arizona, Hindustan Times reported.
Authorities believe Guthrie was taken from her residence on the night before she was reported missing. The investigation is being led by the Pima County Sheriff's Department.
Family members faced public scrutiny
Among members of the Guthrie family, Annie Guthrie's daughter Nancy and her husband Tommaso Cioni have drawn the most public attention during the investigation.
The scrutiny increased after former NewsNation journalist Ashleigh Banfield reported that Cioni might be a suspect in the case. Authorities later rejected that claim. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos clarified that none of the family members were being treated as suspects, HT reported.

Despite the clarification, speculation continued because Guthrie reportedly had dinner with Annie the night before she disappeared. Her home is said to be close to the residence of Annie and Cioni, and Cioni reportedly drove the elderly woman back home that night.
Investigators also seized a vehicle belonging to the couple as part of the inquiry.
Car seized, photos surface online
According to reports, the vehicle taken by the Pima County Sheriff's Department has not yet been returned to Annie and Cioni. Authorities reportedly intend to give it back, but the car was dismantled during the investigation and needs to be reassembled before it can be returned. This information was reportedly shared by television journalist Nancy Grace, as per HT.

Meanwhile, several people on social media circulated alleged photographs of Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni, which quickly sparked online discussion. It is not clear when the photographs were taken.
In the images being shared, Annie appeared to be wearing a hoodie with the hood pulled up and dark sunglasses. She also appeared to pull the hoodie up over her chin, partly covering the lower part of her face.
Cioni, in contrast, was seen wearing a T-shirt and sunglasses in the alleged images.
Some users sharing the photos criticised Annie for appearing to hide her face. Authorities have not commented on the photographs, and the investigation into Guthrie's disappearance remains ongoing.
