A major integrated healthcare and hospitality project worth more than ₹700 crore is set to come up in Guwahati after the Assam government approved an investment proposal for a new multi-speciality hospital and a premium hotel in the city.

The development will be built on a 2.88-acre mixed-use land parcel at Fancy Bazar on Old Jail Road, a busy commercial area in the city. The project combines two separate developments: a 300-bed hospital and a 200–250 room premium hotel.

A multi-speciality hospital proposed

Around 1.46 acres of the land has been earmarked for the hospital, which is expected to involve an investment of approximately ₹360–₹400 crore by Ambuja Neotia Healthcare Venture Limited.

The proposed facility is expected to offer specialised medical services across disciplines, including cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics, oncology and critical care. Healthcare infrastructure in the North-East has expanded in recent years, but many patients from the region still travel to cities such as Kolkata, Delhi or Bengaluru for advanced treatment. The new hospital is expected to add tertiary care capacity within Assam.

Parthiv Neotia, Joint Managing Director of Ambuja Neotia Group, said, “Guwahati holds immense strategic importance as the gateway to the North-East, and we believe this integrated development can contribute meaningfully to the region’s healthcare infrastructure and urban economy.”

“By bringing together advanced healthcare facilities with a thoughtfully designed hospitality component, the project aims to support medical access, create employment, and strengthen Guwahati’s position as an important regional centre for healthcare, business and travel.”

Premium hotel in the same complex

According to project details, the hospital could generate around 1,500 to 2,000 direct jobs once operational, with additional employment likely through allied services and local supply networks.

The remaining 1.42 acres of the site will be used for a premium four-plus-star hotel with around 200 to 250 rooms. The hospitality project is expected to involve an investment of about ₹350 crore.

The hotel is planned to include guest rooms, dining outlets and spaces for meetings and banquets, facilities that are often required as Guwahati continues to grow as a commercial and travel hub for the North-East.

Boost to Guwahati’s service sector

The combined development comes as Guwahati continues to expand its healthcare and hospitality infrastructure, sectors seen as important for the city’s role as a regional centre for business, travel and medical services.

The project will also add to the number of private healthcare facilities in the city, potentially improving access to specialised treatment for residents of Assam and neighbouring North-Eastern states.
