Filmmaker Karan Johar has put an end to swirling rumours and confirmed there will be no sequel to 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham' (2001). He further added that his period drama 'Takht' is not being revived right now.

Karan Johar made these remarks in conversation with Hindustan Times. His statement comes in response to speculation that has been circulating for some time among Bollywood followers.

Setting the record straight

Karan Johar was clear and direct in his denial. "So I'm glad that I have this platform, and I'm glad that I'm speaking with you to clarify that there is no K3G2, and there is no derivative of Takht being made," he said.

The 2001 film featured Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, and Hrithik Roshan. It remains a beloved classic across generations.

Why will there be no K3G 2?

Johar believes the film's strength lies in the nostalgia it carries. He does not want to risk damaging that bond with audiences. He further added, "I would never make K3G 2 -not because K3G was the best film ever made, not at all. Every film has its flaws, but what K3G has in abundance is nostalgia.

Generations have grown up watching that film, what they've loved, what they haven't, what they've cried about, they still love the movie. I'm very, very grateful to the universe that I got to create a film that continues to live on, and I'm very proud and happy with it. But I would never tamper with that nostalgia or the love the film has, because you're setting yourself up for disaster when you make something like K3G 2."

Takht still a dream project

On Takht, Karan Johar was equally firm. He called it one of his strongest screenplays, written by Sumit Roy, and hopes to make it in the future.

"So yes, the truth -the absolute truth is that there is no K3G 2, and there is no revival of Takht currently on the cards. But Takht is a film I will definitely make while I can still breathe and stand on my feet. I consider it one of the strongest screenplays developed, written by Sumit Roy -full credit to him. I believe it is the best-written piece of work in my career, and I hope to make that film one day," he stated.

Takht was announced in 2021 with a large cast,-Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, and Bhumi Pednekar. COVID-19 caused major delays, and the film remains unmade to this day.

Karan Johar's recent project

Karan Johar’s last film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, was a box office hit. While fans are waiting for his next directorial announcement, he has not revealed any new project yet.
