The Delhi government has started releasing long-pending subsidies for electric vehicle (EV) buyers, bringing relief to thousands who had been waiting for months. According to official data, over 12,800 individual buyers are now set to receive incentives as part of the rollout.
Subsidy rollout begins after long delay
The total payout for these buyers stands at approximately ₹24.04 crore, which will be directly transferred to their bank accounts after Aadhaar verification. In addition, around ₹7.95 crore will be disbursed to nearly 3,948 companies and firms whose subsidy claims have already been cleared. The move marks a significant step in clearing the backlog of payments under Delhi’s EV policy, which had faced criticism due to delays.

Backlog, verification and pending cases
Officials said the subsidy rollout comes after a large number of pending claims were reviewed and processed. At one point, the total backlog stood at over 22,700 applications, reflecting the scale of delay in disbursal.
After data clean-up and Aadhaar validation, around 16,892 cases were moved to the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) for direct benefit transfer. Out of these, the current batch of verified beneficiaries is being paid first. However, not all cases have been cleared yet. Around 4,015 claims, worth roughly ₹7.25 crore, are still under verification and will be processed once the required checks are completed.

The subsidy rollout is expected to boost confidence among EV buyers and support the adoption of cleaner mobility in the capital. While the current disbursal addresses a large portion of pending claims, authorities have indicated that the remaining cases will also be cleared in phases as verification is completed, ensuring a smoother and more transparent process going forward.
