In a significant push towards digital governance, the Delhi Assembly has launched an AI-powered chatbot called “Vidhan Sathi” to assist its Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). The tool was introduced by Speaker Vijender Gupta ahead of the upcoming Budget Session starting March 23.

AI chatbot to support lawmakers in real time

The chatbot is designed to act as a legislative research assistant, helping MLAs quickly understand complex laws, policies and reports. It provides real-time analysis of bills and legislative documents, enabling members to prepare for debates with better clarity and context. This makes the Delhi Assembly the first legislative body in India to introduce such an AI-enabled system for its members, marking a shift towards more technology-driven policymaking.

Features include voice support and instant analysis

Vidhan Sathi is equipped with multiple user-friendly features to make it easy for MLAs to access information during proceedings. The platform is available in both Hindi and English and also includes voice-enabled support, allowing hands-free interaction. MLAs can access the chatbot through a QR code placed on their desks or a secure digital link, ensuring that the tool remains restricted to authorised users. One of its key features is the ability to analyse documents instantly. Members can upload bills or reports and receive contextual insights, helping them build more informed and evidence-based arguments during discussions. The system also draws from past debates, committee reports, and legislative records, ensuring that the information provided is relevant and grounded in the Assembly’s functioning.

The launch of Vidhan Sathi reflects a growing trend of integrating artificial intelligence into governance. By equipping lawmakers with faster access to information and analysis, the Delhi Assembly aims to make debates more informed and efficient. With plans to integrate the platform with the National e-Vidhan Sabha (NeVA) system in the future, the initiative could set a new benchmark for tech-enabled legislative processes in India.
