This time, the West Midnapore district administration is bringing a change in awards. No more mementoes or souvenirs. The Constitution will be handed over as an award to the best officers involved in election work! The task of collecting the Constitution written in Bengali has already been completed. After SIR (Special Intensive Revision), those who are deemed the best by the administration will be given the Bengali Constitution.
West Midnapore's Additional District Magistrate (Panchayat) Sandip Tudu says, "Many people receive mementoes as awards. Perhaps they keep them organised for a few days. Later, they get damaged due to neglect. But if there is a Bengali Constitution at home, not only they themselves, but family members and relatives will also browse through it. This is where the significance of this award lies."

According to administrative sources, after SIR, multiple individuals involved in election work will be awarded based on the success of their work. The best Booth Level Officer (BLO), best Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) and best Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) from each block will be awarded.
The best Booth Level Officer (BLO), best Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) and best Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) from each block will be awarded.
West Midnapore has 21 blocks. Therefore, the best will be selected everywhere based on the officials' work according to specific criteria. Then there will be awards to encourage them. Generally, mementoes have been given as awards in various fields before. Whether it be sports, fairs or election work.
Recently, the Additional District Magistrate (Panchayat) has taken the initiative to bring a change in this regard. Already at the Srishtishree fair, guests have been given books related to Tusu instead of mementoes.
The goal here is the same. Makar Sankranti has just passed. People of Jangalmahal remain enthusiastic about Makar Sankranti. But does everyone know about Tusu?
In a word, the answer is no. The Additional District Magistrate explains that instead of buying mementoes, giving books related to Tusu with that money means everyone will keep it at home. People at home will read and see the book from time to time. Then an idea about Tusu will be formed. Unlike mementoes, it won't end up in the dustbin after being carefully kept for a few days. Yet, there was no additional expense for this.

This time, the decision is to give the Constitution in Bengali for work. Why was the Constitution written in Bengali?
The administration explains that there is no reason to think that everyone is proficient in English. Therefore, if the Constitution is written in English, many may face difficulties in reading and understanding it, even if they wish to. In that case, if the Constitution is written in Bengali, language will not become a barrier. Whenever there is a need to know about any matter, one can simply browse through the Constitution and see. There is no need to go to others to know that, one can understand by looking at the Constitution kept at home – citizenship, fundamental rights, parliamentary democracy and various necessary information.
There will also be dignity in keeping the country's Constitution at home. Overall, the administrative officials hope that this award will be extremely honourable and effective for everyone. The Constitution came into force in the country on January 26, 1950. And common people are also happy that such a decision was taken in that very January.
