Thailand is planning to introduce a new entry fee for international tourists arriving by air. The proposal is expected to be discussed in the country’s first Cabinet meeting, moving forward a plan that has been delayed for a long time.

According to reports by The Economic Times and Nation Thailand, the government plans to charge 300 Baht from foreign visitors.

The idea was discussed earlier too but was delayed due to concerns about tourism recovery.

This step follows a global trend where popular tourist destinations are adding such fees to manage crowds and improve services.

What is the entry fee plan?

The plan is to charge a 300-Baht entry fee from foreign tourists arriving by air. For now, it will apply only to air travellers to keep things simple and easy to manage.

Why Thailand is introducing this fee?

According to Reuters, the fee is aimed at generating extra revenue from tourism. It will help improve infrastructure, support visitor safety systems, and provide basic insurance coverage in case of emergencies.

Who will need to pay?

The fee will apply only to international tourists arriving by air. Plans to include travellers coming by land and sea are on hold for now to avoid problems for short-term and cross-border visitors.

How the fee may be collected

Officials are working on ways to make the process smooth. The fee may be included in airline ticket prices or linked to digital immigration systems to avoid delays at airports.

If done properly, the fee could make travel better while keeping things simple for tourists.
