Kolkata woke up to shocking news on Friday morning as two separate tragic incidents were reported from major government hospitals in the city.
At SSKM Hospital, the hanging body of a young man was recovered from the premises. The deceased has been identified as Imran Sardar (22), a contractual cleaner working in the hospital’s gastro department. His body was found on the fourth floor near the Gastro OPD, opposite the main block.
According to hospital sources, staff members first noticed the body in the morning and immediately alerted the police. Officers reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. While the case is initially being treated as a suicide, an unnatural death case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

In a separate incident at RG Kar Hospital, a man who had come for his child’s treatment died after being trapped in a lift inside the Trauma Care Building. Initial reports suggest that he may have suffered a heart attack while stuck in the lift. His body has also been sent for post-mortem.
Both incidents, occurring on the same morning, have raised fresh concerns over safety and conditions in government hospitals across Kolkata.
