The release of the sequel, titled Dhurandhar 2, has brought back the question of the real-life inspiration behind the character Jameel Jamali, with people on social media revisiting the earlier claims and making new comparisons after the climactic reveal.
The series, which is directed by Aditya Dhar, has garnered attention for its unique blend of fiction and politics inspired by the real world. In the first film, the character Jameel Jamali, played by Rakesh Bedi, had been compared to the Pakistani politician Nabil Gabol.

However, the sequel introduces a major twist, revealing Jamali as an Indian intelligence agent, prompting a shift in online speculation about the character’s origins.
Shift in speculation after sequel reveal
It has been suggested by a section of the viewers since the twist that Jamali bears more resemblance to Altaf Hussain, the founder of the political party known as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, who has lived in exile in the United Kingdom.

The journalist Aditya Raj Kaul, who was also involved in the film as a research consultant, has pointed out some of the similarities between the fictional character in the film and Hussain. Among these is the fact that Jamali has become a father in his mid-40s and marries a much younger woman.

There have been other comparisons made between the two, such as videos of Hussain singing "Saare Jahan Se Achha" in London. There have also been political allegations made against him of being involved in India's intelligence ecosystem.
Earlier comparisons and reactions
When the first film by Dhurandhar released, there have been some comparisons made between Jamali and Nabil Gabol, who has links to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Pakistan People’s Party.

Gabol has since reacted to the film, allegedly saying that he is going to produce his own film, tentatively titled Lyari Ka Gabbar, as a counter-narrative.
Despite all these speculations, there has been no official confirmation from the filmmakers on whether Jameel Jamali is actually inspired by any person. There has also been no response from Altaf Hussain on these allegations.
